our lockdown project

Welcome to our all-new, sanded, cleaned, updated THUMBNAIL CABIN HQ

We are delighted to show you the workspace improvements made by the Thumbnail Team during Lockdown (so that's Keith, Me and the Dog) with a little help from our friends;

Grandad - Worktop/units installation

Nanny - Curtains adjustments

Mark and Charlie from A.M Dawson & Sons Ltd and friends of Thumbnail - Carpentry wizardry on Shelving System and for 'Straightening' of our slanting Cabin!!

Dexter - on-demand lifting of heavy things and constant soundtrack of Walking Bass Lines practise

Maddy - Design advice (Soft furnishings) & fuelling our energies with her GORGEOUS home baking!

Take the Tour...

THE FRONT END

Looooong Cutting/Folding/Packing Counter

Our Cabin is in fact two square units without the partition wall and this gives us a natural divide in the form of a ceiling arch which we use to separate the purposes of the two ends of the workspace. The front end, at the entrance is our Meeting Space, Presentation Area, Packing Counter and Dog Bed Zone.

Here you will see we have added some professional, yet welcoming office comforts; a rather stylish-looking James Bond type Sofa be-decked with contrasting cushions and framed by full length black-out curtains.

The Counter at the front end also houses two faux leather tall chairs (for those meetings we mentioned) which I can just about mount and dismount, although not that gracefully, being only just over 5 feet tall! Here is also where I sit to pack all the beautiful printed Art Cards and also where I can photograph finished products for our Social Media. The new blackouts have provided us with a way to improve on our studio photography, which you will hopefully start to see in our future posts!

The long wall above the Packing Counter is home to our Projector Screen which can be rolled down when needed in front of the beautiful artwork we invariably have hanging there awaiting Scanning. The Projector allows us to show presentations of our services to our clients at Meetings, including pics of our Events Stand and Demonstrations we attend. Again the blackout curtains are crucial to maximising this feature.

THE RUG - At the front end of the Cabin we have laid a rainbow stripe rug on top of our freshly sanded floor as a homage to the vast spectrum of our Printing Palette and because it's really comfy for our little friend, Billie-Jo!

THE FAR END

Where the work is…

This end of the Cabin is reserved for the Design Hub of Thumbnail; two workstations (one rather much larger and more grandiose than the other, not mentioning any names Keith Jones) so this is where all the magic happens. It also hosts the second half of the Counter, but this end is much more Industrial-looking: Guillotine/Trimmer/Printer/Creaser/Binder all adorn the worktop on a much longer production line than we have been used to. Now we can can have all our kit out simultaneously!

The Creme de la creme, the icing on top of our DIY Cake is THE SHELVING SYSTEM. I kid you not - the entire cabin re-design has been planned around the installation of this bespoke floor to ceiling wood frame with aluminium folded sheets, sprayed concrete grey. The shelves are almost a METRE deep, offering us the ultimate in storage solution. Every Member has their own LABELLED BOX containing stocks of their work. So now, when an order comes in from our website, we have a purpose built gigantic index system for fast and efficient retrieval and storage. Perhaps I am not alone in my shelving obsession?? I do feel getting this idea to its reality point was fraught with unhelpful input from doubters and attempts to reduce my dream, but now the proof of the pudding is very much in the eating as we begin our new, highly organised life!

Last but not least in 'the far end', no rugs down here, but we have invested in a shamelessly cheesey rainbow coloured LAVA LAMP which gloops multi-coloured warm wax all day to remind us what all this is actually about... ART & COLOUR

See you all next month when I can let you know whether all the organisation has lasted!!
